The South African Institute for Operatic Studies (SAIOS), aims to deliver world-class operatic training focussed on the holistic artistic development of performers without the high academic load of university programs. The SAIOS Opera Artistry Development program allows students to be exposed to greater practical skills development, rather than the traditional over-focus on knowledge assessed by way of formal tests and examinations.

 

Based on the delivery model of various music and business schools across the world, SAIOS students are assessed by way of a range of formative assessments through the course of the year-program with vocal development being accredited by the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in the United Kingdom.

 

Although time is allocated to furthering academic knowledge in the field, the predominant focus on practical artistic development, allows our students to focus on that which will make them successful and employable within the opera industry - practical artistry.
